Project Architect – Aiken, South Carolina Office

About:

Meadors is seeking an experienced project architect to assist with the opening of an architecture office in Aiken, SC. Meadors is engaged in Aiken and continues to build on its relationships. Meadors is looking to establish an office in Aiken. The candidate that is selected for this position will help lead this effort by living in the community and working with Meadors team. This position will be full time in Aiken, SC.

Located in Charleston, SC, Meadors continues to focus its efforts on creating an environment where talented, passionate, and dedicated men and women can apply their skills to the architectural and construction processes in both new construction and historic restoration.  Our work is diverse and matches the talent of our individual employees.

Meadors is comprised of six workshops:  Architecture & Interior Design, Construction, Conservation & Preservation Planning, Design Services, Cabinetry & Millwork, and Estate Management & Maintenance.  Our commitment is to preserve the heritage and durability of traditional building techniques, materials, and design, while also maintaining a commitment to sustainability and efficiency.  

Requirements:

·       Candidate must be a registered architect in the State of South Carolina with a minimum of 8-10 years of experience.

·       Our firm specializes in custom high-end residential and light commercial work. We focus on historic preservation/restoration, alterations/additions, and new construction. Candidate must demonstrate related experience.

Essential Job Responsibilities Included:

  • Meeting and discussing with clients their design and construction requirements

  • Participate in marketing efforts and lead presentations to prospective clients

  • Designing and drafting building plans for various construction projects

  • Preparing and providing clients with materials and project specification lists

  • Overseeing the work of construction workers, contractors, and other team members

  • Undertaking regular site visits to check for quality and conformance with construction documents

  • Developing and maintaining project schedules

  • Participate in field assignments such as construction administration, conditions assessments, and site analysis

  • Participate in all stages of project development, performing conceptual analysis documentation, developing construction documents, submitting the bid set, and monitoring the bid process, and full construction administration services

  • Participate in the coordination of drawings and specifications

  • Assist in construction observation activities and the development of associated field reports, RFI responses, review pay applications, and submittal/shop drawing reviews

  • Contribute to collaborative working relationships with clients, architecture and interiors team, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders

  • Make presentations to clients, stakeholders, zoning, architecture review boards, etc.

  • Thorough knowledge of codes and zoning regulations

  • Experience with presenting to historic review boards, architecture review boards, or similar

  • Proactive communication, problem solving, and self-direction

Job Type: full time in Aiken, SC

Compensation:

Compensation package commensurate to experience and also includes health benefits, paid company holidays, and vacations.

 

Pay: Salary starting at $85,000 dependent on experience.

Carpenter

 Meadors Inc. has an opening for a Carpenter to join our Estate Management and Maintenance Workshop. The Carpenter will supervise and work collaboratively with a helper.

The Carpenter’s Helper will support senior bench carpenters in the production of high-end custom cabinetry and architectural millwork. This work may serve projects managed by Meadors’ internal departments (Construction or Estate Management & Maintenance) or be contracted with clients outside of the company.

Bench Carpenter – Cabinetry & Millwork Workshop

Meadors Inc. is seeking a skilled Bench Carpenter to join our Cabinetry & Millwork Workshop. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in custom architectural millwork and cabinetry, with a proven ability to take projects from raw material through to finished installation-quality products. This is a shop-based position located at our Charleston, SC headquarters, where the Bench Carpenter will produce high-end, custom millwork and cabinetry for a variety of projects—both for internal Meadors projects and for clients and companies outside of Meadors.

This role involves close collaboration with our in-house architecture and design teams to realize project specifications, and it includes the responsibility of working directly with and training a helper. Strong craftsmanship, communication, and mentorship skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret detailed shop drawings and architectural plans, and carry projects from raw material to finished goods at the highest standards of quality

  • Proficient in the setup, operation, and maintenance of woodworking machinery, including but not limited to:

    • Shapers

    • Moulders

    • Table saws

    • Planers

    • Jointers

    • CNC milling machines

    • Specialized joinery tools (domino joiners, dowel machines, etc.)

    • Wide-belt sanders, edge banders, and other general woodworking equipment

  • Comfortable working with a variety of hardwoods, composites, and engineered materials

  • Strong understanding of wood movement, joinery techniques, and finishing preparation

  • Skilled in assembling cabinetry from CNC-milled parts, including edge banding, milling and applying hardwood face frames, fitting backs and drawer boxes, and preparing units for finishing and installation

  • Ability to produce complex parts with tight tolerances and a high degree of craftsmanship

  • Proven ability to manage workflow and meet production deadlines in a shop environment

  • Demonstrated skill in the production of radius millwork to the highest quality standards

Sanding / Finishing Technician – Cabinetry & Millwork Workshop

Meadors Inc. has an opening for a Sanding / Finishing Technician to join our Cabinetry & Millwork Workshop. This is a full-time, shop-based position located at our main facility in Charleston, SC. The Sanding / Finishing Technician will be responsible for preparing custom cabinetry and architectural millwork for finish, and for applying stains, primers, paints, and topcoats to achieve a high level of craftsmanship and consistency.

This work supports a range of custom, high-end residential and light commercial projects. Products may be fabricated for internal projects managed by the Construction or Estate Management & Maintenance departments, or for work contracted directly with clients outside of the company.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of sanding and finishing experience in cabinetry, millwork, or furniture production

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to achieve uniform, high-quality finishes on complex custom work

  • Proficient in sanding raw and sealed wood surfaces using hand tools, sanding blocks, and orbital/power sanders

  • Ability to prepare components and assemblies for finishing, including detailed edge and corner work

  • Experience applying stains, primers, and paint or clear finishes by hand and with HVLP or airless spray equipment

  • Familiarity with waterborne and solvent-based finishes and sealers

  • Ability to mix and match finish products for color and sheen accuracy per specifications

  • Capable of sanding and preparing between coats to ensure an even, clean final finish

  • Ability to inspect workpieces and correct surface imperfections before and during the finishing process

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-ventilated finishing area, including setup and cleanup of spray booths

  • Comfortable using PPE including respirators and following all shop safety guidelines
